1933 Marx, Super Deluxe Electric Coupe In Original Box

1933 Marx, Super Deluxe Electric Coupe In Original Box

"The first of its kind! A toy auto that runs by its own electric power. No springs to wind, just throw the switch, and away it goes! Real electric headlights and tail light. Dual switch operates motor and lights independently". 1st Sears Christmas Catalog, 1933

This was the original advertisement text for the very first all-electric toy automobile as published in the first Sears Christmas catalog. Manufactured by Marx it carried the hefty name of "Super Deluxe Electric Motor Driven Coupe". Made from heavy gauge pressed steel and lithoed in four different colors it was the top of the line. It was also their most expensive toy with a retail price of $2.19. Very few were sold.

For me it has 3 "firsts" it's the first I've seen in this color combination (it also came with a cream colored body), it has the only original box I've seen, and grading near mint - (minus) its the best example I've seen. Best of all everything works!

The box is all text with two blank panels. It still has its original $2.19 price sticker on one end. The sticker included the name of the original retail store from Dallas, TX. which is shown below (postcard not included).
